Former Councillor Mike Pagtakhan endorses
Scott Gillingham for Mayor
Former City Councillor Mike Pagtakhan has endorsed Scott Gillingham’s campaign to be Mayor of
Winnipeg.
First elected in 2002, Pagtakhan was Winnipeg’s first Filipino city councillor and represented the Point
Douglas ward for 16 years under Mayors Glen Murray, Sam Katz, and Brian Bowman.
“I’ve worked with several different mayors, and I think Scott’s compassionate leadership and his
ability to bring people together to work toward a common goal is what Winnipeg really needs right
now,” he said.
Pagtakhan cited Gillingham’s campaign commitments to build more affordable housing and to
address the backlog of maintenance issues through Neighbourhood Action Teams as achievable plans
that will have a positive impact on his former ward.
“I had the pleasure of serving with Scott on council and EPC for four years, and he always impressed
me with his understanding of the issues, his willingness to listen to stakeholders on all sides, and his
interest in finding solutions that work for everyone,” Pagtakhan added. “That’s how I always
approached the job, and it’s nice to know Scott and I share the same leadership values.”
Pagtakhan is the 5th major endorsement Gillingham has received during the early stages of his
campaign. Deputy Mayor Markus Chambers (St. Norbert), Councillor Jeff Browaty (North Kildonan),
Councillor Janice Lukes (Waverley West) and former Long Plains First Nation Chief Dennis Meeches all
endorsed Gillingham previously.
